Health Care To Rural Eritrea.
A University of California - Davis Project
The project that we have embarked on is one that will change the lives of residents in third world Eritrea, located in northeast Africa.
The outcome of the project is to fund clinics in villages that otherwise would not be able to receive aid. Through this we hope to bring necessary health care to those who have been forgotten by the government and the outside world.
Who is involved? The Eritrean Student Association is a body of Eritreans, and other student supporters, dedicated to this project. In Eritrea, numerous doctors are also assisting in relaying the shortages their clinics face and the best possible plan of action to achieve our goals.
When will the project happen? This project was started recently. We hope that within one year we have raised enough funds to start purchasing medical equipment, medical vaccines, and other medical supplies for clinics in rural areas of Eritrea.
Where will the project happen? The project is aimed at helping Eritrea, more specifically the rural areas of Eritrea. From the doctors we have been in contact with, the clinics that will mostly be receiving assistance are located 50-100 miles from the capital. These villages usually do not have proper water supplies and frequently have power outages.
Why does this project matter? We believe no one should go without health care. It should not matter what area of the world you were born in, everyone should have the same access to health care in order to live a prosperous life. The state of Eritrea's government has left it without the basic equipment and supplies to help its people. With this project we hope to make a difference in the life of many underserved people.
How will the funds be used? With the help of the doctors in Eritrea, we will first compile a list of supplies that are the most dire. From this list we will contact organizations to potentially receive a mass amount of necessary goods for a fraction of the price. Once the supplies have been obtained, we will ship them to Eritrea were the doctors can pick them up and start using them. To insure the supplies are used for medical purposes, one of the people involved from UC Davis will accompany the package.
