The Quest to Matter

A Student Launcher U Project

Short Project Description

The Quest challenges students to ACCEPT that they matter, to ACCELERATE the message that everyone matters, and to ACT to change our world.

What is the outcome of the project?

After Angela Maiers challenged listeners in her "You Matter" speech at TedXDes Moines in June 2011, people from around the world - particularly students - reacted powerfully to the call to action. Students completed an extraordinary number of jaw-dropping projects to change our world. These range from sending a crate load of books to a school in Ghana to raising money to build wells for communities that lack clean water, to publishing YouTube videos that saved lives and creating Facebook support groups for students in crisis. The Quest2Matter will spread the "You Matter" message to millions of students around the world and inspire them to act to change our world.

Students will accept that they matter – one of the most important concepts a human being can learn. They will tell others that they also matter. Lastly, we expect that tens of thousands of students from all over the world will take action to change our world. These students will share details of their actions on the Quest website.

Importantly, because of the mentorships that we arrange and information we offer, students will learn to use digital media to become fully informed, experience the power of learning from mentors, and adeptly use modern means of communication to effect change in our world.

Who is involved?

Choose2Matter is a not-for-profit corporation headed by former educators who believe that the two most important words that anyone can hear are, "You Matter." They also believe that today's young people form the most compassionate generation this world has known.

When will the project happen?

The Quest begins on April 15, 2013 and will run through May 17, 2013. It is the start of something, not the end of it. The Quest will help to launch Choose2Matter, a movement in which people from all over the world learn that they matter and begin to take constructive action to solve the world's problems.

Where will the project happen?

Starting April 15, the Quest will be hosted on our Website, accessible via

Students will be taking action in communities all over the world.

Why does this project matter?

Two words: You Matter. These two words can change your mood; they can change your mind; they can your heart. These two words can change lives and change our world – if we understand them and we leverage them in the right way. We were created for significance and one of the most dangerous things that can happen to us as individuals, as organizations and as communities – is to believe that we don’t matter.

The Quest will unlock the potential of our youth to change our world. Through the Quest, students will learn that their actions can be significant, and they will be connected to the information and mentorship they need to take effective action.

How will the funds be used?

Funds will be used to hire editorial, marketing and administrative personnel to raise awareness of, and manage, the Quest. Funds may also subsidize travel for chosen students to events to be held this fall at which their quests will be recognized.
