You have questions. We have answers.
Q. What's the idea behind Student Launcher?
It's simple really, Student Launcher is a virtual bake sale for student leaders. We want to help student leaders spend less time fundraising and more time doing. We believe that micro-fundraising through the web means schools will use fewer resources, but increase their total number of donors and donations.
Q. How much does it cost?
There are ZERO upfront costs to post a project. For each donation there is a 3% credit card processing fee and an Student Launcher fee of 5% to keep our lights on and continue to grow the site.
Q. How do you protect against fake projects?
Q. How long does it take to verify a project? Each project is verified with an official school representative by a Student Launcher team member before any money is released.
Once a project is submitted, it is live on the site and you can start fundraising right away. We then send out our army of verifying chipmunks to make sure that the group submitting the project is officially recognized by the school and that the project is legit. The chipmunks usually takes about a week to verify everything. (p.s. by chipmunks we mean our staff :-).
Q. What is the minimum/maximum days that a project can be up for funding?
While we don't set a min/max for projects on our end, the ideal length is under 90 days. There is success in momentum when it comes to fundraising and if a project is open for 365 days, the momentum is lost.
Q. Who can donate to a project?
Anyone and everyone can donate to projects. In fact, many of the donations come from friends and family of the project team, even if they weren't alumni of the school.
Q. Are donor donations on Student Launcher tax deductible?
Depends, we give all the money collected to the school and it is their option to issue donors a tax deductible receipt.
Q. Who's behind Student Launcher?
A wizard...just kidding. Student Launcher is a project of Swift Kick. Swift Kick has been helping colleges & universities increase student engagement and retention since 2004.
Q. How long does it take to get the project funding after the project is done?
This varies, and will depend on the policies of your school. For some schools, it is as simple as us mailing a check to the student group. Other schools require all funding to go through the Alumni/Development office which may take a bit longer.
Q. Where are you located?
The Big Apple...NYC. (Fun Fact: NYC was originally called The Big Oyster).
Q. How can I contact someone for help?
Email: info @ StudentLauncher.orgPhone: 877-479-4385Fax: 866-254-1722Mailing Address: 186 Norfolk #2F NYC, NY 10002
Q. I need to change something on my project page. How can I fix it?
When you are logged in, you will see an edit button on the right side of your project page, just below the donation widget.
Q. What about Offline Donations we collect?
Student Launcher allows the Project Owner to input offline donations from any type of activity (car wash, bake sale, etc) that will then get added to the overall total raised funds for the project > http://grab.by/qyoq. This is a great way for your team to track both your online and offline donations in one place.
Q. What happens if a project doesn't get fully funded before it expires?
Donors want to see the projects they fund happen and our experience shows us that only projects that reach 100% of their fundraising goal actually happen, so ONLY if the project reaches 100% of their fundraising goal are funds released to the school. No donor credit cards are charged until a project hits 100%. That said, we work with each project owner to reduce the total goal and/or extend the end date to make sure the project hits 100%
Q. How does our club/org get the money we fundraise?
All the money donated goes directly into an escrow account (holding account) and is released after...1) The project/organization have been verified by the school and2) The project fundraising deadline hits zero days left and3) The project reaches 100% of its fundraising goal. After which, it usually takes around 15 days for us to mail the check to the school. The check is usually either mailed to ...- The school's Development/Alumni Office so they can process and distribute the money with all their donations, or- The school's student activities office (or student government) to process and distribute the money, or- Directly to the organization if they are allowed to process their own donations.
Q. I'd like to delete my profile, how can I do that?
Let us know via singing telegram. Or, email us at info @ StudentLauncher.org and we'll take care of it.
Q. I run our school's Alumni/Development Office and would like to talk with someone about using Student Launcher to help support our fundraising efforts.
Great! Let's talk here.
